The Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT) (IWT-Flanders) is an funding agency created by the Flemish government in 1991. Since innovation policy is a regional matter in Belgium, IWT-Flanders’ mission is to support and promote R&D and innovation in Flemish industry. All companies established in the Flemish region, particularly SMEs, may request IWT support for research projects and utilize IWT services. IWT-Flanders has a board of directors drawn from representatives of industry, universities and other stakeholders. It reports directly to the Flemish innovation minister.
