Two organisations from Germany participate in COMPERA:
VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH (VDI TZ)
The VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH is a subsidiary company of the VDI (The Association of Engineers). Since 1973 we have been working on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and for other institutions and enterprises.
Our activities aim at increasing the technological efficiency and competence of industry and scientific research.
Committed to taking societal responsibility we link competencies to assist in search, analysis and evaluation of technologies that help to solve ecological, economical and social problems and promote research, development and innovation. The networked knowledge of our engineers, economists, natural and social scientists supports our clients in making decisions that shape the future.
We transfer latest results from basic and applied research to new technical products, processes and applications; within project partnerships we support the BMBF and other public bodies by expertise, consultancy and management.

Clusters, Networks and Competence Centres as Drivers for Innovation
Clusters, networks and competence centres are concentrations of interconnected universities, research institutions, service providers, small and large enterprises, educational institutions, public actors and further associated institutions in a particular field. They comprise the various steps of the value chain and are characterised by an intense interaction and communication among the involved players. Enterprises benefit from the research results at an early stage and likewise research institutions find business partners for implementing their research results more effectively. Thus, clusters, networks and competence centres are effective instruments for the promotion of innovation, development of economy and business as well as location marketing.
The Initiative Networks of Competence Germany
The concept of the Initiative "Networks of Competence Germany" by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology is to be the “League of the best innovation networks” in Germany. Membership to the initiative is a quality label that is applied only to the top networks. The Initiative Networks of Competence Germany therefore acts as an instrument of international location marketing.
The initiative was founded in 1999 and is organized by VDI/VDE-IT since 2007. There are two main aspects the initiative aims for: to represent the innovation location and to support the member networks of competence with their development and activities.
