Program name: Interdisciplinary Research and Educational *Platforms
Objectives:
- increasing the capacity for integration of Romanian universities within the European area of education and research;
- increasing the scientific performance and harmonizing the Romanian higher education system with the needs of a knowledge based society;
- preparing the highly qualified human resources in education and research by organizing the educational system through masters and PhD programs in a new scheme;
- improving the educational and research capabilities through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary programs.
Length of the program: 2006-2008
Total Budget: 50.000.000 €
Equipments: max. 35.000.000 €;
Minor works for infrastructure renewal: max. 5.000.000 €
Maintenance expenses: max. 5.000.000 €
Staff Costs - max. 5.000.000 €
Financial resources:
- organizing a platform / laboratory with the necessary infrastructure for interdisciplinary research will imply funds released by Ministry of Education and Research, with regard to the specific field and complexity of research activities;
- for stimulating the universities to use efficiently the initial high quality infrastructure, Ministry of Education and Research will endorse a maximum 50% of the value related to infrastructure needs of the entity;
- for creating a strong competition, and for stimulating all university participations, all eligible applications’ budgets will not surpass 1.5 million Euros (equivalent in RON) as a contribution from Ministry of Education and Research;
- the works for extending and adapting the initial infrastructure up to 20% of the given budget are eligible;
- Ministry of Education and Research funds will be released only when organizing conditions and university support are accomplished as well.
Human resources
- faculty members involved in educational and in interdisciplinary research activities;
- advanced undergraduates finalizing their graduation theses or undergraduates involved in research activities;
- graduates involved in interdisciplinary masters programs
- PhD students and researchers involved in interdisciplinary programs.
Estimated results
- 30 entities (platforms / laboratories) for education and interdisciplinary research. These entities will be competitive with similar European structures with regard to their resources (human resources, infrastructure);
- the development of interdisciplinary research programs involving students and young faculty members in inter- and transdisciplinary teams;
- the development of performant structures within Romanian universities integrated in European research and education networks;
- increasing the quality and compatibility of Romanian universities for a better integration in the European Area of Education and Research.
